Top 5 Phillies giveaways at the Bank this season
🚦THE Philly sports newsletter

Everybody have a great weekend? No? Better than the Flyers, at least? No?
Well Phillies Opening Day is just 17 days away. We will make it through.
In the email today:
🎁 Top 5 Phillies giveaways at the Bank this season
The Phanatic stopped by the Phillies broadcast booth during Sunday's game to show Tom McCarthy and Ben Davis some of the giveaway items for this upcoming season.

Here's the official 🚦On Pattison ranking of the top five:
5) Knit hat - Saturday, April 15, children 14 and under

Classic giveaway right here. Stylish. No prominent advertising, at least that we can see from the pic. And functional for those windy April games when the kids are freezing.
4) City connect floppy hat - Friday, August 22, fans 21 and over

We know the City Connect uniforms that the Phillies wear for Friday home games are divisive. But most fans seem to like the design of the hat. And here it is in bucket form, best worn shirtless while double-fisting Miller Lite tallboys.
3) Phanatic beach towel - Sunday, July 6, children 14 and under

Another classic. Gotta love the beach towel. Very patriotic design this season, A++.
2) Mother's appreciation day puffer jacket - Sunday, May 4, women 15 and over

This looks like something that would run you $95 at the New Era Phillies Team Store. Gift mom tix and the jacket, you get to go to the game, everybody wins.
1) Aaron Nola replica jersey - Saturday, May 3, children 14 and under

Love this jersey giveaway sponsored by Independence Blue Cross, because the only advertising on it is the same IBX patch found on the players' jerseys. Usually a giveaway this nice gets ruined by a giant logo.
That's the official top five, but there are dozens more giveaways/promotional nights this season. Our friends over at Phillies Nation maintain a comprehensive list here.
☠️ Flyers’ playoff chase all but over after lost weekend
Before the Flyers started their current seven-game home stand, we wrote that they probably needed to be perfect or close to it to stay in the playoff chase.
They’ve been perfect on this home stand, in that they have played four games and lost all four.

The Flyers scored two goals in 120 minutes this weekend. The Seattle loss was way worse because the Kraken are out of playoff contention. Losing to the Devils, who are six points up on the second wild card with 17 games to play, was more understandable.
Still…this wasn’t the level of play anyone expected from a putatively desperate Flyers team. The Flyers’ play this weekend looked distracted and resigned. Maybe that makes sense after what happened at the trade deadline.
On and off the ice, Scott Laughton embodied what it meant to be a Philadelphia Flyer.
Thanks for giving your all for Philly, @Laughts21.

The Flyers also traded away Andrei Kuzmenko after a seven-game cameo appearance, but that’s a footnote. The Laughton trade (for forward Nikita Grebenkin and a first-round pick) was all anyone in Flyerland wanted to talk about after Laughton was gone.
Scott Laughton is an incredible human being, leader and community figure.
He was also, by far, one of the most underappreciated athletes in Philly during a very bad stretch for the Flyers. Toronto is getting a hell of a person. Wishing him all the best.

Flyers GM Danny Briere called making the decision to trade Laughton “a little scary.” We get that, but only sort of.
Laughton was a 2012 first-round pick and spent his entire career in Philadelphia before the trade. He played 661 games for the Orange and Black. You don’t just turn your back on that kind of longevity and that kind of person. And yet.
Laughton is 30 years of age. By the time the Flyers are good enough to let him deploy his leadership and all-around talents for a playoff team, Laughton might be out of the league.
So the Flyers got worse again short term in the hopes of getting better in the future, again. But the present looks terrifying. The home stand ends with games against three playoff-bound teams (Senators, Lightning, Hurricanes).
It will take some doing not to end the home stand winless.
💩 Sixers get outmaneuvered in tank battle with Jazz
The Sixers entered last night’s game with the Jazz coming off Thursday night’s ritual sacrifice by the Celtics in Boston. The loss was their 12th in 13 games. The Sixers’ tank was well and truly on.
Unfortunately, there are other teams in the league trying to lose, too. The Jazz came to Philadelphia and showed men of will what will really was.

The Sixers had six players on the injury report last night. The Jazz took one look at that and said “oh.” And they listed nine players on their injury report.
As a result, this game looked suspiciously like a preseason game. But we checked — this game counted in the regular season standings. Which was bad for the Sixers.
Pretty disastrous 24 hours for the Sixers tanking outlook
-Brooklyn Nets lost at the buzzer on a blocked Cam Thomas shot
-Raptors game winner by Jamal Shead is waived off for being a split second too late

There was another phenomenon at work here: No one can tell players like Lonnie Walker IV (25 points), Quentin Grimes (25) and Jared Butler (15) not to go out and light it up if the other team is all too happy to let them.
Think of it from their perspective. The Sixers might completely blow this team up in the offseason. Nick Nurse might be gone.
The only two players almost certain to be here are Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain, and they play the same position (more or less) that these guys do. The time to create some personal highlights is right here and now.
Lonnie filled the stat sheet. 👏

So it was a good night for those guys and a bad night for Sixers fans and the franchise. Unfortunately for the Sixers, only one team could lose last night, and it wasn’t them.
